How Much Does Intercom Cost? Full Pricing Breakdown (2026)

Last updated June 2026Also see: full Intercom review

Quick answer

Intercom publishes starting prices for its core plans, but the total cost for most teams is significantly higher once AI resolution fees, seat costs, and add-ons are factored in. The Essential plan starts at $29/seat/month (billed annually). The Advanced plan starts at $85/seat/month. The Expert plan starts at $132/seat/month. On top of seat costs, Intercom charges $0.99 per resolution handled by the Fin AI Agent, which is the primary cost driver for support-heavy teams. Annual costs for a 10-seat support team using Fin can range from $15,000 to $80,000+ depending on resolution volume.

How Intercom pricing works

Intercom has two distinct cost layers. The first is the seat-based plan for human agents: Essential at $29, Advanced at $85, or Expert at $132 per seat per month (annual billing). The second is Fin AI Agent resolution fees: every conversation fully resolved by Fin without human intervention costs $0.99. Volume discounts apply above certain thresholds but the per-resolution model means AI costs scale directly with support ticket volume.

For teams with high ticket volume, Fin resolution costs often exceed the seat cost. A team handling 5,000 resolutions per month at $0.99 adds $4,950/month ($59,400/year) in AI fees on top of seat costs. Intercom does not cap Fin costs by default, so teams without volume controls can face unpredictable monthly bills.

Intercom plans in detail

Essential - $29/seat/month (annual). Includes the shared inbox, live chat, basic automation (series), help center, and standard reporting. Does not include SLA management, workload routing, or advanced reporting. Fin AI Agent can be added at $0.99/resolution.

Advanced - $85/seat/month (annual). Adds AI-assisted replies (Fin Copilot for agents), conversation routing rules, multiple inboxes, advanced reporting, and custom bots. Suitable for teams that need automation beyond basic triggers.

Expert - $132/seat/month (annual). Adds SLA management, workload balancing, CSAT surveys, multi-brand inboxes, and priority support. Designed for enterprise support operations with defined service level requirements.

Fin AI Agent - $0.99 per resolution on all plans. A resolution is defined as a conversation handled entirely by Fin without escalation to a human agent. Conversations that are handed off to a human agent are not charged. Volume pricing is available at higher resolution counts.

Add-ons and additional costs

Beyond the core seat and Fin fees, several items can materially increase the total cost:

  • Fin AI Copilot: Available on Advanced and Expert plans as an AI assistant for human agents, included in the plan price. Not available on Essential.
  • WhatsApp and SMS channels: WhatsApp Business messaging and SMS are available as add-ons with separate per-message fees from carrier/Meta costs.
  • Proactive support (outbound messages): Intercom charges for outbound emails and in-app messages sent to users. Above a free tier of 500 contacts, pricing scales with the number of people reached.
  • Multiple help centers or brands: Additional branded help centers may require higher-tier plans.
  • Custom reports: Advanced and Expert include custom reporting; Essential does not.
  • Annual vs. monthly billing: Monthly billing is available at roughly 20% higher rates than annual pricing.

Example: what a typical deployment costs

A worked estimate for a 10-seat support team on the Advanced plan handling 2,000 Fin resolutions/month:

ComponentEstimated cost
10 seats on Advanced ($85/seat/month, annual)$10,200/yr
Fin AI Agent (2,000 resolutions/month x $0.99 x 12)$23,760/yr
Proactive messages add-on+$1,200-$3,600/yr
Year 1 total estimate~$35,160-$37,560/yr

If Fin resolution volume doubles, the total cost rises proportionally. Teams with 10,000+ monthly resolutions can see Fin costs exceed $120,000/year.

06

Free trial and free plan

Intercom offers a 14-day free trial on paid plans with no credit card required. There is no permanent free plan for production use. Intercom previously had a free "Starter" plan that was discontinued; it is no longer available to new customers.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, core seat prices are published on the Intercom pricing page. Fin AI Agent resolution fees ($0.99/resolution) are also disclosed. Enterprise volume pricing is negotiated separately.

The Essential plan at $29/seat/month is the lowest starting point. Teams that do not use Fin AI Agent pay only the seat cost.

It depends entirely on resolution volume. At $0.99/resolution, 1,000 monthly resolutions add $11,880/year; 5,000 resolutions add $59,400/year.

Intercom allows teams to set spending alerts, but automatic hard caps are not available by default. Monitoring resolution volume is important to avoid bill shock.

Annual billing is approximately 20% cheaper than monthly. Enterprise volume discounts on Fin resolutions are available but require negotiation.

Intercom does not enforce a minimum seat count publicly, but enterprise negotiations may include minimums.
